The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a historic 297% increase in prize money for the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, pushing the total purse to a staggering $13.88 million—surpassing even the 2023 Men’s World Cup pool of $10 million.

The champions will receive a whopping $4.48 million, marking a 239% increase from the previous winner’s take of $1.32 million in 2022. Runners-up will now pocket $2.24 million, while semi-finalists get $1.12 million each. Every participating team is guaranteed $250,000.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the boost as “a landmark moment” and reaffirmed that “women cricketers must know they will be treated on par with men if they choose this sport professionally.” This move signals a strategic push toward pay equity and elevating the stature of women’s cricket globally.

Indian women’s cricket icon Jhulan Goswami reacted emotionally to the news, saying she received “goosebumps” and highlighted how the announcement will inspire future generations and provide tangible support to aspiring players.

As the tournament approaches—starting with India vs. Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30—this financial commitment from the ICC marks a pivotal moment, both competitively and culturally, for women’s cricket.
