Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has once again stirred controversy online, this time by urging parents to cancel Netflix subscriptions. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk accused the streaming giant of promoting content he described as “harmful to children.”

Musk’s comments followed a viral debate around shows and films that critics argue push inappropriate themes for younger audiences. Without naming specific titles, Musk said Netflix had “lost the plot” and was “no longer safe for kids,” urging parents to take responsibility by cutting ties with the platform.

The call quickly went viral, with hashtags such as #CancelNetflix trending. Supporters amplified Musk’s concerns, while critics accused him of exaggeration and politicising entertainment. Netflix has not issued an official response, but company representatives have previously defended their programming as diverse, inclusive, and intended for varied audiences.

Musk’s intervention comes as Netflix faces intensifying competition from rivals like Disney+, Prime Video, and Apple TV+. While the platform continues to dominate global streaming with more than 270 million subscribers, its content strategy often sparks cultural debates.

The warning also reflects Musk’s broader pattern of engaging in cultural flashpoints, using his platform on X to influence public opinion. Whether his call translates into tangible subscriber losses for Netflix remains unclear, but the episode underscores the intersection of tech leaders, social media power, and content politics.
