230 Goa’s peak tourist season officially began on October 8 with the arrival of the first charter flight from Russia, marking the return of large-scale international travel to the coastal state. The flight, operated by Azur Air, landed at Dabolim Airport carrying 238 passengers, signalling the start of Goa’s busiest travel period. According to the Goa Tourism Department, this season is expected to see over 1,200 charter flights from Russia, the UK, Kazakhstan, and Poland, a significant rise from 837 flights last year. These arrivals could bring in nearly 3 lakh international tourists between October and April. Officials said this year’s bookings reflect strong demand from repeat travellers as well as new segments such as wellness, adventure, and eco-tourism. “Russia continues to be our largest international source market, but we’re also seeing steady growth from Eastern Europe and the UK,” said a Goa Tourism spokesperson. The state has also ramped up airport and ground infrastructure to accommodate the influx. Charter operators, including Azur Air, TUI, and Nordwind Airlines, have secured landing slots through March 2026. The tourism department expects the upcoming months to generate record hotel occupancy rates and foreign exchange inflows. Industry observers say Goa’s strong charter pipeline underscores its resilience and global appeal, despite rising competition from Southeast Asian beach destinations.
