34 TL;DR: Emami Agrotech is entering packaged snacks with WeMe, backing the move with ₹750 crore and a ₹1,000 crore revenue target. The bigger bet is on quick commerce, branded snacking and diversification beyond edible oils. Article: Emami Agrotech has entered India’s packaged snacks market with WeMe, committing about ₹750 crore to build the business and targeting ₹1,000 crore in revenue within five to seven years. The launch moves the edible-oil-led company deeper into branded foods as faster-growing snack and convenience channels reshape how urban Indians buy packaged food. WeMe debuts with potato chips, Jhuri Aloo Bhaja and a choco-hazelnut spread. About ₹400 crore of the planned investment is earmarked for a greenfield food plant in West Bengal; the company says the wider programme could create more than 1,000 direct and nearly 3,000 indirect jobs. The timing is deliberate. India’s snacks market was worth ₹50,590 crore in 2025 and is projected to reach about ₹1.04 lakh crore by 2034, an 8.28% CAGR, according to a 2026 market study. Chips accounted for roughly 42% of the category, putting WeMe directly into its largest segment. Distribution is equally important. WeMe is positioned as digital-first, with quick-commerce availability planned across Kolkata, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad before a broader general-trade rollout. Quick commerce already contributes more than three-fourths of e-commerce FMCG sales in India, according to industry measurement data. Vidula Agarwal, director at Emami Group, said, “We have built a digital first brand, prioritising taste as the key differentiator.” The harder test will be repeat purchase: India’s snack aisle is crowded, regional brands are strong and convenience alone is easy to copy. For Emami Agrotech, WeMe is therefore a diversification bet on higher-frequency branded consumption. Converting quick-commerce trial into repeat demand and general-trade scale will determine whether that ₹1,000 crore ambition becomes a meaningful second growth engine beyond oils and staples.
