112 Hyundai Motor Company has confirmed that its luxury division, Genesis, will enter the Indian market in 2027, with local manufacturing to be carried out at Hyundai’s plant in Tamil Nadu. The move signals the brand’s intent to compete directly with established luxury players like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi, while capitalising on India’s growing demand for high-end vehicles. The introduction of Genesis in India will include a lineup of sedans and SUVs, featuring models such as the G80, GV70, and GV80, all adapted for Indian driving and climatic conditions. The vehicles will be assembled domestically to optimise pricing and meet government incentives under India’s Make in India initiative. Tarun Garg, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor India, said the decision aligns with Hyundai’s long-term strategy to strengthen its presence in the premium mobility space. “Genesis stands for progressive luxury — design, technology, and craftsmanship reimagined for a new generation of Indian buyers,” he stated. The cars are expected to be positioned in the ₹60 lakh to ₹1 crore price bracket, depending on localisation levels. Genesis also plans to introduce hybrid and fully electric variants, leveraging Hyundai’s global EV architecture to meet India’s growing clean mobility targets. Analysts view the launch as a strategic step to diversify Hyundai’s India portfolio and elevate its brand perception, with Genesis expected to challenge luxury incumbents through design innovation and connected technologies.
