Apple Inc. launched a software update on Wednesday, labeled iOS 17.0.3, to resolve an overheating issue that affected certain early purchasers of the iPhone 15 Pro series. The update is accessible as an over-the-air fix within the iPhone settings app’s software update section. The release notes indicate that the update includes “important bug fixes, security updates, and addresses an issue that may cause iPhone to run warmer than expected.” It has been made available for both older iPhones and iPads.

Some initial owners of the iPhone 15 Pro reported instances of their device becoming unusually hot. Apple attributed this problem to faulty code in various applications, such as Uber, Instagram, and the Asphalt 9 racing game, alongside a glitch in the device’s software. According to the company, the setup process for the new device could strain the processor, leading to overheating.

Contrary to some speculations, Apple clarified that the software update will not slow down the iPhone 15 Pro’s new A17 Pro chip.

Earlier, numerous users took to social media and Apple support to express concerns about their new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max heating up to an abnormal extent. Some users even shared thermometer readings of their iPhones, indicating temperatures well above 100F (38C). Last week, the company released the initial beta version of iOS 17.1 to app developers, with plans to officially roll out the update later in October.
