39 Over 100 business and community leaders recently gained insight into addressing affordable housing needs in the area through special home tours, leaving impressed by what they witnessed. Organized by the Community Development Alliance (CDA), responsible for executing Milwaukee’s Collective Affordable Housing Strategic Plan, the tours showcased three model homes. These homes, built by Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity, Lange Urban Sustainable Homes (LUSH), and VIA CDC, are part of the city’s larger Collective Affordable Housing initiative, aiming to provide quality, affordable homes for every resident. Teig Whaley-Smith, Chief Alliance Executive of CDA, emphasized the importance of homeownership in combating systemic racism and fostering community strength. The alliance collaborates with community groups to invest in neighborhoods, ensuring access to quality homes for Milwaukee families, particularly those of color, to build generational wealth. The event also featured government officials, CDA funders, and partners like American Family Insurance, discussing ongoing efforts and future plans to make safe and affordable housing accessible to all Milwaukeeans, irrespective of race.
