217 Google on Thursday announced Nano Banana Pro, its latest AI-powered image generation and editing tool, expanding its Gemini ecosystem just days after releasing Gemini 3 Pro. Built for advanced visual storytelling, Nano Banana Pro enhances capabilities across slide decks, infographics, and 3D renderings. The tool can process up to 14 images or 5 characters at once while maintaining visual coherence—an upgrade from the original Nano Banana, which went viral in August for turning photos into lifelike figurines. According to Google Labs VP Josh Woodward, internal users have been using the Pro version to create visuals from resumes, code snippets, and structured data. Nano Banana Pro is currently accessible via the Gemini app, NotebookLM, and across Google’s developer, enterprise, and ad products. It’s also available through Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions, with rollout planned for Gemini’s Flow AI filmmaking tool. As part of its AI momentum, Google also introduced an image upload tool in Gemini to check if an image was AI-generated. Watermarks will appear on free-tier outputs but are removed for Ultra users. The launch comes as Google intensifies its rivalry with OpenAI. While OpenAI’s ChatGPT leads the App Store’s free app rankings, Gemini sits in second place. Google reports over 650 million monthly active users for Gemini and 2 billion users for Gemini-powered AI Overviews. Alphabet’s stock rose 4% following the announcement, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s growing AI footprint.
