President Joe Biden has expressed the United States’ willingness to collaborate with Bangladesh in achieving its economic objectives, a month after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s inauguration following elections that faced opposition boycotts.

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Hasina, President Biden affirmed the US commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s economic aspirations, marking a significant gesture toward bilateral cooperation. Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud conveyed this information to reporters, highlighting the potential for strengthened ties between the two nations.

Prime Minister Hasina secured her fourth consecutive term in the January 7 elections, which encountered opposition dismissal due to alleged irregularities. Despite criticisms from various quarters, including the US State Department, which raised concerns about the election’s fairness and democracy standards, Hasina’s victory solidified her position in Bangladesh’s political landscape.

Minister Mahmud expressed gratitude for President Biden’s letter, emphasizing its potential to enhance bilateral relations and foster mutual growth. The acknowledgment from the US administration signals a positive trajectory for diplomatic engagement between Bangladesh and the United States.
