The Utah Jazz is actively expanding its reach to tap into international basketball talent, according to Danny Ainge, the team’s CEO and governor. Ainge emphasized the team’s commitment to scouting talent globally, with a focus on basketball-playing countries across South America, Europe, Asia, and every region in the United States. As the NBA continues to witness a surge in international players, the Utah Jazz aims to cast a wide net to discover promising athletes in the global basketball landscape.

Ainge’s comments follow the NBA’s announcement in October, revealing a record-breaking presence of 125 international players on opening-night rosters for the 2023-24 season. Notably, five of these international players were part of the Utah Jazz. The diverse roster represented 40 countries and territories spanning six continents. The influx of talent has contributed to the global appeal of the NBA, with all 30 teams featuring at least one international player this season.

The internationalization of the NBA is not only reflected on the court but also in the stands. StubHub reported a remarkable 120% increase in international ticket sales compared to the previous season. Fans from 92 countries are now traveling to North American games, a notable increase from the 68 countries represented in the previous season.

Ainge, who assumed the role of CEO for the Utah Jazz in December 2021 after 18-year tenure leading basketball operations for the Boston Celtics, expressed the global nature of basketball as a driving force behind the team’s scouting efforts. The Utah Jazz’s valuation has seen substantial growth, currently standing at $3.09 billion, according to Statista. This represents a remarkable 52.59% increase from the previous year and a significant 76.57% surge since Ainge joined the franchise. As the team strategically expands its international scouting network, the Utah Jazz aims to maintain its upward trajectory in player recruitment and overall franchise value.
