In 2022, American Airlines established a partnership with AIM – Chicago, providing students with access to the airline’s maintenance facilities and professionals. Additionally, aviation maintenance technicians from American’s Chicago hub have been mentoring student teams from AIM – Chicago for the annual Aerospace Maintenance Council Competition (AMC), held alongside Aviation Week’s MRO Americas conference. At the recent AMC awards ceremony, American Airlines awarded scholarships to Julio and Edgardo Sanchez Casillas, brothers attending the Puerto Rico Aviation Maintenance Institute in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Each received $2,500 Phoebe Omlie scholarships, named after the first female aircraft mechanic license holder.
