236 Vietnam is anticipating an increase in its agricultural exports to China following an agreement earlier this year that will allow the official export of Vietnamese poultry meat. The Agency of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Industry and Trade shared this expectation. According to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam exported 22,450 tonnes of meat and meat products valued at US$110.35 million in 2023. This represents a significant increase of 19% in volume and 30.4% in value compared to 2022. These products were shipped to 28 markets globally, with major importers including Hong Kong, China, Belgium, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Cambodia, France, and the U.S. Specifically, Vietnam exported 4,770 tonnes of poultry meat and edible by-products valued at $12.04 million, marking impressive year-on-year increases of 136.1% in volume and 214% in value. The main buyers of Vietnamese poultry meat included China, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, South Korea, and Hong Kong. Currently, Vietnam officially exports two livestock industry products to China: bird’s nests and milk. These exports are conducted under the protocols signed between the two countries, including one on exporting bird’s nests signed in 2022 and another on exporting milk signed in 2019. With the anticipated approval for the export of Vietnamese poultry meat to China, Vietnam aims to further expand its agricultural export market and strengthen trade relations with its neighboring country.
