Following Congress’ approval of federal protections for same-sex marriage, US President Joe Biden signed legislation on Tuesday to ensure marriage equality. “Today is a good day. Today, America takes another step toward equality. Toward liberty and justice not just for some, but for all. Because today, I sign the Respect for Marriage Act into law,” Biden tweeted.

According to reports, the new US law codifies federal protections for same-sex relationships and mandates that the federal government and all states recognize marriages if they were consummated in a state where the union was permitted.
