Addressing the audience at the École Polytechnique Fédérale of Lausanne (EPFL), Ghita Mezzour emphasized Morocco’s ongoing efforts to unlock its digital potential, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and inclusive growth. She underscored the Kingdom’s commitment to modernizing public services, enhancing accessibility for citizens and businesses, and fostering the expansion of the digital economy.

Mezzour emphasized the importance of supporting startups and establishing a robust digital infrastructure to facilitate technological advancements within companies. Digital excellence, she emphasized, involves creating a conducive framework for innovation, promoting the growth of startups, and facilitating access to research and development for businesses.

The minister also highlighted the significance of digital and technological capabilities as drivers of competitiveness, fostering the development of new sectors aligned with global transformations. She outlined several indicators illustrating Morocco’s regional and continental leadership in digital transformation, emphasizing the role of creative startups in generating innovative solutions across various sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and electronic public services.

Mezzour discussed the evolution of e-government infrastructures, emphasizing the provision of high-quality, reliable digital services for citizens, businesses, and civil society. She noted that Morocco has made substantial progress, with five Moroccan centers featuring in the latest e-Governance Index. The country currently offers over 300 online public services for citizens and 200 online services for businesses.

Highlighting the initiatives undertaken by her department, Mezzour spotlighted efforts to cultivate digital skills, citing the Jobintech project aimed at training 15,000 talented young individuals in the digital field across different regions of the Kingdom by 2026.

The event, moderated by Moroccan professor Rachid Guerraoui, saw the participation of Lahcen Azoulay, Morocco’s ambassador to Berne, the president of EPFL, and a host of researchers and students. Ghita Mezzour was also honored with a prestigious prize in recognition of her outstanding contributions to research and professional achievements.
