Elon Musk’s xAI made a significant leap over the weekend with the launch of its highly anticipated AI model, Grok, aiming to transcend competition and evolve into an everyday verb, akin to “googling.”

The release of Grok led users to draw quick comparisons with established AI systems like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google Bard from Alphabet Inc., and Microsoft Corporation’s Bing AI. In a humorous twist, one user humorously coined ChatGPT as “Woke” and Grok as “Based,” highlighting their unique personalities. While ChatGPT was labelled as “Polite and annoying,” Grok garnered admiration for its “Sarcastic and Funny” nature. Musk himself playfully commented on the simplicity of ChatGPT’s name, in contrast to his envisioned status for Grok as an all-encompassing AI interaction verb.

Musk conveyed his desire for Grok to become synonymous with utilizing AI, echoing the way “googling” represents internet searches. The selection of the name Grok, phonetically resembling “Google,” further gained approval, aligning with Musk’s vision of what AI should embody.

What sets Grok apart from its counterparts is its unique integration with platform X, enabling wit and sarcasm in real-time data interactions. This dynamic connectivity distinguishes Grok from competitors that rely on static data sets, offering users a more engaging AI experience.

Early reports indicate that Grok’s initial performance has demonstrated competitiveness, challenging Meta Platform’s LLaMA 2 and equalling Anthropic’s Claude model during academic testing. Musk has unveiled plans to integrate Grok into the offerings of all X Premium Plus subscribers, positioning it as a central feature of X’s newly introduced premium subscription level once it moves beyond the early beta phase.
