Mayor Aki-Sawyerr had the honor of delivering a lecture at the Norman Foster Institute (NFI) in Madrid on Sustainable Cities. The NFI, founded by Sir Norman Foster, emphasizes the interconnectedness of our societies and cities’ futures.

Engaging with students enrolled in the NFI Masters Programme proved to be a rewarding experience for Mayor Aki-Sawyerr, as she found that insights from Freetown were directly applicable to their studies and practical endeavors in other cities.

The event also facilitated discussions between Mayor Aki-Sawyerr and architects at the Norman Foster Foundation, exploring potential collaborations beneficial to Freetown. She expressed hopes of hosting an in-person team from the Foundation in Freetown soon.

Sir Norman Foster, renowned globally for his architectural prowess, has established the Norman Foster Foundation as a United Nations (UN) Centre of Excellence.
