Amazon’s cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), revealed plans to invest a substantial €15.7 billion ($17.02 billion) in data centers located in Spain’s northeastern Aragon region. This significant investment marks a substantial expansion of AWS’s operations in the country.

According to a statement from the Aragon government, the investment will unfold over a span of 10 years in the region, which is already established as a key hub for Amazon’s operations in Spain. The government hailed the initiative as “the largest technology investment in Spain and southern Europe.”

Amazon stated that this new investment plan supersedes a previous commitment made in 2021, where the company had allocated €2.5 billion for Spain. The expanded investment is expected to foster significant economic growth, with Amazon estimating the creation of an average of 17,500 jobs in local companies annually until 2033.

Digital Transformation Minister Jose Luis Escriva expressed enthusiasm about AWS’s decision, emphasizing that it positions Spain at the forefront of technology innovation and artificial intelligence in Europe.
