In a concerted effort to bolster mental health support for young adults, The Hartford, a significant provider of workers’ compensation and employee benefits, has forged a partnership with Active Minds, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to mental health awareness and resources. This collaboration is geared towards addressing the pressing mental health challenges faced by the younger segment of the workforce.

The Hartford’s 2024 Future of Benefits Study paints a concerning picture: 45% of Gen Z workers disclose feeling depressed or anxious at least a few times per week, while 52% acknowledge feeling stigmatized, which inhibits them from seeking mental health care a stark contrast to their more experienced counterparts.

Christopher Swift, Chairman and CEO of The Hartford, emphasizes the urgent need to confront this issue head-on, stating, “Gen Z workers have an urgent need for mental health help that we cannot ignore.” He advocates for a collective effort involving businesses, educational institutions, and policymakers to tackle the ongoing mental health crisis. Swift is confident that by partnering with young adults as equal collaborators, a significant cultural shift toward mental health awareness can be achieved, ultimately fostering healthier workplaces and communities.

The Hartford and Active Minds are concentrating their efforts on prevention and action, providing direct support to young adults and mobilizing them as advocates for mental health. They have unveiled a new digital guide tailored to assist young adults in navigating mental health resources within the workplace. This guide marks the first of three resources slated for release this year, addressing the growing demand for mental health education and support. Notably, 60% of U.S. workers surveyed by The Hartford believe that employers should offer additional mental health tools for employees.
