57 Dana Incorporated (NYSE: DAN) has been honored with a 2024 Automotive News PACE Award for its electro-mechanical, infinitely variable transmission (EMIVT) system. The recognition was announced at the annual awards ceremony held on April 29, 2024. This achievement marks Dana’s ninth PACE Award since the inception of the program, including two PACE Innovation Partnership Awards, and the company has been named a finalist 25 times. Dana’s electro-mechanical, infinitely variable transmission is a multi-mode driveline system featuring an in-house developed power-split transmission with integrated high-voltage motors, smart lubrication and actuation, a low-voltage motor and inverter for pump power, and a driveline controller equipped with proprietary software. Distinguished from traditional transmissions, this technology operates in engine-only, hybrid, and battery-only modes, seamlessly shifting between them. It not only reduces CO2 emissions but also enhances the performance, functionality, and cost-effectiveness of vocational trucks and emergency vehicles. Christophe Dominiak, senior vice president and chief technology officer for Dana, commented on the innovation, stating, “This Dana-designed and first-of-its-kind solution illustrates our in-house product capabilities and unique ability to collaborate with our customers to meet their specific needs regardless of the powertrain configuration.” He emphasized the system’s versatility, allowing users to switch between modes to optimize efficiency and performance. “It creates numerous benefits and opportunities for customers such as zero-emissions to support sustainability goals, reduced fuel consumption, as well as lower production costs,” Dominiak added.
