In 2024, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu outlines two primary goals for the government: reinvigorating the city’s economy and enhancing citizens’ well-being. Lee emphasizes the implementation of measures to infuse vitality into the economy, focusing on promoting Hong Kong’s development momentum, cultivating a welcoming service attitude, and introducing diverse activities to stimulate both day and night economies.

Furthermore, Lee commits to facilitating foreign companies entering China’s market and reciprocally introducing Chinese companies to the international arena. The government’s secondary focus is on improving citizens’ livelihood, with a special emphasis on perfecting the district administration system and rolling out effective policies for community enhancement.

Reflecting on the past year, Lee acknowledges the transformative journey from disorder to prosperity. He highlights the achievements of steering Hong Kong out of pandemic-induced turmoil, allowing citizens to resume normalcy. Lee is optimistic about 2024, predicting greater collaboration among community sectors, resulting in Hong Kong becoming more prominent on the global stage.

Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan Kwok-ki reiterates the government’s commitment to safeguarding national security, with Article 23 of the Basic Law set for completion within the year. Chan emphasizes the influx of expertise and visitors to Hong Kong in the past year, underlining ongoing efforts to assist citizens and construct a caring society.

In his New Year’s message, President Xi Jinping reassures continued support for Hong Kong and Macau, envisioning their long-term prosperity and stability while integrating further into China’s overall development.
