130 Netflix is bringing Hollywood to New Jersey as it closes a $55 million deal to purchase the former Fort Monmouth Army base. The streaming giant plans to build an $850 million studio on 300 acres in Eatontown and Oceanport. The new production facility will feature 12 sound stages, ancillary production spaces, and back lots, similar in size and scope to its studios in New Mexico. The facility will be used to produce high-quality TV series and films, including original content, and production will also occasionally take place at scenic locations around the state. Netflix signed an agreement with the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority on Wednesday to complete the deal.
