India’s pioneering solar study mission, the Aditya L1 spacecraft, is approaching its conclusive phase, with anticipated maneuvers for entry into the L1 point set to conclude by January 7, 2024, as confirmed by ISRO Chairman S Somanath.

Somanath shared insights at an event commemorating the 60th anniversary of the First Sounding Rocket Launch at VSSC, stating that Aditya is almost in its final phase, with ongoing incremental preparations for its entry into the L1 point.

He specified that the concluding maneuvers are expected to be completed by January 7th, marking a significant step in the mission’s progress.

Launched successfully on September 2 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, Aditya L1 has traversed approximately 1.5 million km from Earth over a span of 125 days. The spacecraft is poised to be positioned in a Halo orbit around the Lagrangian point L1, recognized as the point nearest to the Sun.

The primary objectives of the Aditya L1 mission include capturing and transmitting images of the Sun for scientific experiments, contributing to a deeper understanding of solar phenomena. The completion of maneuvers for entry into the L1 point marks a crucial milestone for this ambitious solar study mission.
