211 Whampoa Group announced on Monday (Jan 22) the appointment of accomplished banker Edmund Lee as the Chairman of Singapore Gulf Bank (SGB), the digital banking arm located in Bahrain. Lee, previously the Vice-Chairman of Asia-Pacific at JPMorgan Chase and Co, where he also served as the Senior Country Officer for Singapore, brings extensive experience to his new role. This move follows the recent recruitment of Ali Moosa, the former Regional Head and Vice-Chairman of Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa businesses at JPMorgan, who now assumes the crucial position of Executive Vice-Chairman at SGB. SGB is gearing up to introduce cutting-edge digital banking services globally in early 2024, having recently secured final approval from the Central Bank of Bahrain. These services include continuous settlement, custody, and connectivity to digital assets, along with robust asset management offerings. In his new capacity, Lee will play a key role in guiding the SGB executive leadership team, led by Moosa. Beyond his role at SGB, Lee holds the esteemed position of Founding Chairman at Asia Gulf Holdings, the parent company of SGB. Asia Gulf Holdings oversees Whampoa’s strategic investments across Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. Before his decade-long tenure at JPMorgan, Lee held influential leadership positions at DBS Vickers Securities, serving as Chairman and Chief Executive. His comprehensive professional background spans corporate and investment banking, asset management, and private banking. This strategic appointment positions Lee as a significant contributor to steering Singapore Gulf Bank towards a new era of financial excellence.
