150 Mota-Engil, a prominent construction company, announced on Monday that its African subsidiary secured a significant contract from Angola’s public works ministry. The contract entails the construction of a 2,000-unit social housing scheme along the Corimba waterfront in Luanda, the capital city. Valued at $670 million, this three-year project marks a substantial investment in Angola’s housing infrastructure. In addition to the housing scheme, Mota-Engil’s subsidiary secured another contract from the ministry to improve infrastructure in Luanda’s Nova Vida quarter. The Nova Vida quarter, constructed between 2003 and 2012, requires upgrades to its paving, water supply, drainage, and sewage treatment systems. The contract for this two-year project has an initial value of approximately $230 million. Furthermore, Mota-Engil will undertake the construction of a border post along Angola’s frontier with the Democratic Republic of Congo, enhancing connectivity and facilitating trade between the two countries. Beyond Angola, Mota-Engil is also set to embark on a $110 million road construction project on the outskirts of Mexico City. This venture reflects the company’s expanding global footprint and commitment to infrastructure development in diverse regions. As the largest construction company in Portugal, Mota-Engil maintains strong ties with African nations, particularly former Portuguese colonies like Angola. The company’s share price experienced significant growth last year amid a post-pandemic building boom, reflecting its robust performance in the construction sector. With a revenue of $4.3 billion in the first nine months of 2023, Mota-Engil is on track to meet its full-year turnover target of more than $5 billion, underscoring its position as a leading player in the global construction industry.
