On Tuesday, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd showcased its generative AI model, Tongyi Qianwen, which is based on the same technology that powers ChatGPT, a popular chatbot. The company stated that the AI model will be incorporated into all of its apps soon. In a demo, the model was able to draft invitations, plan itineraries, and recommend makeup products to shoppers.

Initially, Tongyi Qianwen will be integrated into DingTalk, Alibaba’s workplace messaging app. It can be used to summarize meeting notes, compose emails, and draft business proposals. It will also be added to Tmall Genie, Alibaba’s voice assistant. CEO Daniel Zhang believes that the technology will bring significant changes to the way people produce, work, and live their lives. He emphasized that models like Tongyi Qianwen are essential for making AI more popular in the future.
