In a recent move, Broadcom has taken control of distributing its VMware Cloud product on Amazon Web Services (AWS), marking a significant change in its subsidiary’s distribution strategy.

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan emphasized this transition in a blog post, stating that VMware Cloud on AWS “is no longer directly sold by AWS or its channel partners.”

Tan clarified, “What this means is that customers who previously purchased VMware Cloud on AWS from AWS will now work with Broadcom or an authorized Broadcom reseller to renew their subscriptions and expand their environments. Customers who have active one- or three-year subscriptions with monthly payments that were purchased from AWS will continue to be invoiced by AWS until the end of their term.”

VMware initially introduced its AWS support in 2016, leveraging VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), an integrated software stack comprising compute (vSphere), storage (vSAN), and network virtualization (NSX), deployable in private or public clouds.

The AWS version of VMware Cloud has been instrumental for VMware, offering a reliable solution for migrating enterprise VMware workloads to the public cloud without the complexities of native cloud services.
