Hyundai Motor Group, which includes Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia, has announced plans to provide free Tesla Supercharger adapters to its current electric vehicle (EV) owners. This move aims to enhance the charging experience for Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia EV drivers by granting them access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network.
Eligible models include the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and 6, the Kona Electric, the Genesis GV60, GV70, and G80, and the Kia EV6 and EV9. Owners of these vehicles will be able to request a free adapter through the MyHyundai portal beginning in the first quarter of 2025.
The 2025 IONIQ 5 will be the first Hyundai model to come equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port as standard, eliminating the need for an adapter.
This initiative reflects Hyundai’s commitment to improving the EV ownership experience and addressing the growing demand for convenient and accessible charging infrastructure. By providing access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, Hyundai aims to enhance the overall driving experience for its EV customers and further accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.
This move follows a growing trend of automakers adopting the NACS standard, which is expected to significantly improve the charging experience for EV drivers across the United States. By providing access to a wider range of charging stations, automakers aim to address concerns about range anxiety and encourage wider EV adoption.
