In a bid to support sustainability goals and cater to the rising demand for electric vehicles (EVs), Airbnb has teamed up with ChargePoint, a leading provider of networked charging solutions, to facilitate the installation of EV chargers at listings and enhance access to EV charging infrastructure across the United States. This initiative comes as searches for listings with EV chargers surged by over 80 percent from 2022 to 2023.

Under the partnership, Airbnb and ChargePoint will offer discounts on EV chargers and installation services to hosts in the US, making it more affordable for them to integrate this amenity into their listings. The offer includes discounts of up to 36% on select ChargePoint EV charger models, $100 off on installation services, and an additional $200 discount sponsored by Airbnb for the first 1,000 hosts purchasing an EV charger through ChargePoint.

According to internal Airbnb data, listings with EV chargers are booked for more nights and generate higher income on average compared to listings without this amenity. To further support hosts in showcasing their EV charging access, Airbnb has introduced a new listings editor in the Listings tab, simplifying the management of listing details including amenities like EV charging access.

The collaboration between Airbnb and ChargePoint aligns with the increasing demand for EV chargers among guests, with states like California, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Washington, and North Carolina emerging as the most popular destinations for EV charger searches in 2023. This trend mirrors the broader surge in EV sales across the US, which saw a 60% year-over-year increase from 2022 to 2023, with California, Florida, Texas, and Washington leading in EV registrations.

Ameet Konkar, Airbnb’s Director of Sustainability, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting its role in empowering hosts to meet the growing demand for EV chargers from guests while taking sustainable actions. Rick Wilmer, CEO at ChargePoint, emphasized the joint effort to remove barriers to residential charging solutions for Airbnb hosts and ensure a seamless charging experience for guests.

This collaboration underscores Airbnb’s commitment to sustainability, complementing its existing initiatives aimed at helping hosts adopt more sustainable practices. From sharing educational materials to launching energy efficiency programs in multiple countries, Airbnb continues to empower its community to reduce emissions and offer sustainable travel options to guests. With thousands of hosts already engaged in these initiatives, the partnership with ChargePoint represents a significant step towards promoting sustainability within the Airbnb ecosystem.
