68 Otis Worldwide Corporation, a leading manufacturer of elevators, escalators, and moving walkways, has been chosen by Emaar Properties to modernize 34 of the 57 elevators and all eight escalators in the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. The contract also includes servicing all units for an additional 10 years. Ahmed Al Matrooshi, Executive Board Member and Managing Director of Emaar Properties, expressed confidence in Otis, citing their track record as a reliable partner since the installation of the building’s original elevators and escalators in 2010. He emphasized the importance of maintaining safe, smooth, and efficient vertical mobility in the supertall building, which stands at over 828 meters with more than 160 stories. Otis technicians have provided around-the-clock service at the Burj Khalifa since its opening, ensuring peak efficiency of the elevators and escalators. The Elevator Management System, EMS Panorama, continuously monitors system performance and feeds information to control room displays. Upon modernization, an upgraded version of EMS Panorama will be implemented, enabling real-time remote control of equipment and hall settings for building staff and Otis technicians. This enhanced system will optimize operational functions, such as monitoring travel, door, and landing information, to reduce wait times and improve efficiency. Drawing from its experience modernizing other iconic projects like the Empire State Building in the USA, Egée Tower in Paris, and Elevador Lacerda in Brazil, Otis aims to minimize disruption to occupants and the approximately 17 million annual visitors to the world’s tallest building.
